Creating reports by using report.rsp as a template

    Hi!

I want to create a personalized report by using report.rsp as a template, however, I donīt know how to modify the template in order to use it as I want, I was wondering if thereīs an example or documentation that indicates how to customize it and use it in my desktop app.

I dont want to use the Reports workspace.

    Hi Karla

No there is no doc on how to customize report.rsp.

What is it you are wanting to do that you can’t do with the Report Builder?

If you build a report using the report builder it can be loaded into a report section dynamically.

    Hi!

Thank you for your reply. I want to have a personalized format, a certain way to show information, and generate it from a button by code.
Iīve tried the reports workspace and itīs very dinamic, however itīs not the format and structure I am looking for.

    Hi,

The Cloud Report Builder on the roadmap (note: the Roadmap can change) for V8 may be what you want.

You do have the option of using 3rd-party tools (<gd&r> from Barry). Reports.JS from Stimulsoft works off oData, so can work with Lianja easily. Their report designer is essentially compatible with Crystal Reports (in fact they used to advertise, and told me personally, that any CR report that didn't run on their product would become a work item for them, provided I could provide the oData data feed). I see this as an incredible strength of Lianja because, as in your case, with Lianja's ability to work it other tools, you are never stuck.

The same was true in VFP. The product we are in the process of moving to Lianja had a need for Crystal Reports (466 of them, to be exact), and integrated it into the framework we use with VFP to make it seamless for the developer.

All that said, I think Yvonne published an example of a report here that mimicked an Purchase Order. It was really neat. I can't find the URL however. If you see how that was done, you can probably design what you want that way, save it, and call it with a button.

    Hi Hank

The cloud report builder is already in Lianja. I think what Karla wants is some sort of custom non standard layout which can be accomplished with an rsp file.

    Hi Josip,

I don't think it was that -- it was more recent. I don't remember an image in top left.

That said, that sure was a nice job. The data is static, it seems, but perhaps that could be overcome.

Thanks for looking that up. Good find, as always.

    Hi Hank

theres a lot that can be accomplished in the report builder. I’m currently enhancing and improving it. Who knows maybe I’ll provide import of VFP and Crystal reports

    Hi Barry,

I have 466 reasons to support that decision, should it happen.
